Kentucky’s lottery for Cultivator Tier I, Cultivator Tier II, Cultivator Tier III, and Processor licenses was just held moments ago through exactly the kind of exceptionally transparent and thoughtful process we’ve come to expect from OMC. Maybe it’s just because I’ve been watching tip-off week all last week and Javelina 100 livestreams all weekend, but I, honestly, loved the sports broadcast format. Sam and Terry killed it.

Notably KY officials expressly stated multiple times in the leadup to the lottery their desire to avoid an oversupply through this license allocation. With such a diverse array of outcomes for any individual cultivator or processor, it will be interesting to see how close the actual market is to the “stable and sustainable” market KY officials modeled.
With 26 cultivators and processors (and just 2 large cultivators), there is certainly opportunity to achieve it, provided that just the right number of businesses can get off the ground and maximize capacity. Fire business strategies will be monitoring the market data as it comes out and will be evaluating the data against data from other mature markets
